Department of Workforce Services
What is this program? This is a serious issue for survivors of sex trafficking- they usually won't qualify for medical benefits, but that is only because they need to go about it in a specific way. DID is a qualifying disability. If you are diagnosed with DID, then you will qualify for disability income. DWS will pay for your diagnosis. There is no shame in receiving this benefit and there is no commitment to continue receiving the payments. Once you have been able to get back on your feet in a stable situation, then you can discontinue the payments. Just don't do it too soon because you will not get that benefit back once you have waived it. Be good to yourself and grant yourself the time that you need to heal.
Who qualifies? Anyone who can not hold down a job due to mental health issues. If you are a survivor of sex trafficking, this means you and this benefit was put in place to help you get back on your feet because society actually does care about what happens to you-this is how society shows it. We know that you are not having trouble working because you are lazy- heck, you've been working a difficult job without a break for a long time. Besides, this isn't about what anyone else thinks. This is about what you need.
